terry replied to terry's discussion vincas F1's vs open pollinated
"Yes, I saw the pics of them in the greenhouse. Very healthy and uniform! I would love to know how they stand up to a rainy summer. I have no doubt that if it were a dry summer they would look great. Its that excessive moisture that makes me worry…"

"Yeah, the reason I wondered about the verbena dying was if they were out in the open and it rained too much, cause that will bring a verbena down. But if thats the reason why, then I would have really thought that there would have been some empty…"

"I don't know anything about Vitesse, but I'm so happy with Coras and Titan's that unless there's a substantial advantage, I won't risk changing. What's the advantage of that series? Re the Verbena, I assumed they died…"

"I actually don't go to the trials much, and the reason why is because, at least here in Raleigh, every summer is so different weather-wise that how one annual will do one summer, could die the next summer, or at least look very different…"

Paul Westervelt replied to terry's discussion vincas F1's vs open pollinated
"Terry, I don't know any details about their production and Michigan has much different weather than Raleigh for sure, but I was still shocked to see them all look good. I can say that was NOT the case with the rest of the garden. Clearly the…"

terry replied to terry's discussion vincas F1's vs open pollinated
"Paul, thanks for the pics! They do all look great-not any empty spaces in any of the beds that I could see. I would love to know what kind of weather they were having since they were planted -lots of sun or a good bit of rain etc, because that makes…"

"Terry, we grow Titans and Coras and like them both for ease of production. My Titans bloomed a solid week earlier than my Coras this spring, but they were also from a different vendor which may have been a contributing factor. All of that said, I…"

"Thanks everyone for the info. Just struggled through a horrible late winter/early spring with the vinca. Hardly any sun to speak of for months at a time. It was only last week that the sun really came out for good. Now I know what living in Seattle…"

terry replied to Paul Cross's discussion Processing Compressed Bales

terry replied to Barb Matthews's discussion Manihot esculenta 'Variegata'
"Thomas-I don't think that var. manihot would be your best choice for a 30" container-they tend to get bulky in size, but they are great in the landscape. I would think a A. portodora would be cool, but they will get up to 4' easily,…"

Paul Westervelt replied to terry's discussion boron deficiency in pansy plugs
"We apply supplemental Boron every two weeks the entire time the crop is one the ground. For rates and other support info, I high recommend contacting the folks at J.R. Peters. Jack, Cari and their team are excellent. There are probably other great…"

Eric Rohloff replied to terry's discussion boron deficiency in pansy plugs
"You can go all the way up to 6 ppm one time as a corrective. Make sure you rinse really good especially if you doing it with extremely low ph water. I usually apply .125 -.25 ppm constant. Remember this saying, "When in doubt leach it…"

terry replied to terry's discussion boron deficiency in pansy plugs
"Thank you so much Eric-I think the E.C. levels are too high and that is the culprit. Will drench right now. I always really appreciate the help that you give. So if I were starting from scratch-you apply .25 ppm/weekly from stage 2 onwards? That is…"
