Alice Blevins replied to terry's discussion producing pansy buds faster
"I have always preferred using low rates of fertilizer for pansies in a mostly constant feed. 100 - 150 ppm's. I like to use 20-10-20 for the first week or two then use a more basic fert such as 17-5-17 to finish. I have grown pansies in…"

Alice Blevins replied to terry's discussion using B-nine on Wave petunias
"Hello I could be wrong but I believe B-Nine may delay blooming in your wave petunias. We use Bonzi drenches to control growth of Wave Petunia. Drenches at 3 - 5 ppm's usually starting at 3 then 5 ppm's about 1-2 weeks later. If we have to…"

Alice Blevins replied to Bonnie Weller's discussion pH meter recommendations
"I have used Myron ag meters, Hanna and Oakton. I prefer Oakton meters. Hanna has a very good pH and ec meter that is not unreasonably priced. The Myron meters are simple to use and to read."

"Here is a list given to me by our consultant; Ageratum, intermediate and tall snapdragons, dianthus, lobelia, nierembergia, pansy, petunia, salvia, verbena, and viola for early flower initiation. Start when plugs are 2 weeks old for early floral…"

Alice Blevins replied to Cyndie Warbelow's discussion Cell Phone Policy for Employees
"We are not retailers but wholesalers, but cell phone usage is one we have addressed many times. We tried saying "no cell phone", but found employees carried them anyway and hid to take or make calls. We also found the phones useful to our…"

Alice Blevins replied to Becky Litterer's discussion Ok now I will use lights for extending the growing season I need a list of plants that need to be long light?
"One of the first posts gave a link to a very good article on grouping plants. Lighting is included in the listings. We do not grow hemalis begonia, but I'd say that the lighting is for both flowering and prevention of tubers. We light the crops…"

"Hi, We light from 10 pm - 2 am. We light our plugs the whole time they are in plug production areas, just because we don't want to spend the labor moving them again, but I believe most plugs need to lit starting about week two…"
