When to plant
Belive it or not Sweet Potato Slipes are hard to fined in East Texas, so we would like to start our own slipes. I have not been able to fined information on how to or when to start the slipes. Could someone point me in the right dirteion.

Thinks just what I need. I had look at Aggie horticulture before but had not found how or when to start slipes. You information was just what I needed.

I start my own slips a really low tech way. I only need a few hundred of them so this is what I do.
I have a good south facing kitchen window and I put about 6-8 sweet potatoes in jars of water on the shelves, change the water about once a week. Pull off the sprouts as they get 4-5" long and root them in another glass of water. I pot those up in the greenhouse in 1204's or 1801's and grow them on the bench until they're about 6 inches long, then cut them off to about 3" and root the tips again. You can exponentially root more and more by continuing this process until you run out of time and it's time to plant them.
It works for ornamental sweet potatoes too as long as it's not those patented ones...
