We currently use commercial Motorola two-way radios (they are pretty large and clunky and are in need of replacement) to communicate back and forth. We have a 14 acre facility and sometimes use loud equipment. The intended use is to inform the staff if a phone call needs to be answered, request assistance for loading, ask a general question etc.

We use Sprint's Direct Connect on our cell phones.

We use Icom 2 way commercial grade radios. They have worked well for us for several years.

We've ditched the Direct Connect for texting. It's more polite and stealthy.:)

We switched from Motorola radios to EnGenius phones. The quiet is exquisite- not hearing the chatter. There are 2 forms- the green phones are two way radios and phones,  and the blue phones are just 2 way (& less expensive). They are also lighter but seem to be pretty heavy duty. We have been using them for 3 years. They are hooked into our phone system(Avaya) and work great.

Could you please specify which model you use?
